Additional Veterinary Services
We recommend pre-anesthetic blood tests on almost all of our surgery and dental patients. Our in-house laboratory enables us to have results in just minutes for routine tests. We also utilize a national veterinary laboratory, when needed, for specialized testing.
Pet Dentistry
Dental care is more than preventing bad breath and loose teeth! It is important for your pet's overall health because dental disease can damage other organs such as the heart and kidneys.
In addition to our wide variety of tartar control products, routine dental cleanings help ensure good oral health. Pets are placed on gas anesthesia while a veterinary staff member removes tooth tartar with an ultrasonic dental scaler, then polishes the teeth. Gum pocket depth is measured and a fluoride rinse administered. Our veterinarians will do a complete oral exam and perform any necessary extractions or surgeries.
Laboratory Screening
We also recommend screening tests for the 42 breeds prone to primary glaucoma such as Basset Hounds, Cocker Spaniels, Beagles, Toy Poodles, Dalmatians, Boston Terriers, Siberian Huskies, and Persian & Siamese cats.
Eye Care
Our veterinarians use special instruments to evaluate several diseases of the eyes. Using a state-of-the-art device called a "Tonopen", we are able to accurately measure your pet's intraocular pressure for diseases such as glaucoma using this quick and painless procedure. We use this diagnostic test any time we have a patient with a "red eye".
Dermatology
Dermatology and skin disorders can lead to your pet having itching problems, hair loss, skin infections, ringworm, mites, and "hot spots". If you pet is constantly scratching, or licking, we'll help you determine the cause of your pet's skin problem and help you with a treatment plan to make your pet more comfortable.
Ear Problems
Chronic ear infections can be a sign of a deeper problem. If your pet suffers from recurrent ear infections, we'll examine your pet's ears and prescribe a treatment plan to help make your pet more comfortable. At Northgate Animal Hospital, we offer ear flushing procedures, and treatment for conditions such as ear mites, ear infections and chronic ear problems.
Vaccinations
Vaccinating your pets against disease is one of the most important aspects of pet health care. Proper vaccination can spare your pets from such potentially deadly diseases as rabies, distemper and feline leukemia. Vaccinations must be re-administered periodically to protect your pets from diseases and keep them healthy for a lifetime.
Geriatric Pet Care
Older patients commonly experience the same problems that older humans do - heart problems, diabetes, kidney problems, arthritis, dental problems, cancer, hearing and vision loss, senility, etc. Many of these conditions we can treat to extend and improve your pet's quality of life, especially when diagnosed early.
